The Pelham Fritz Recreation Center 18 Mount Morris Park West is located at the West 122nd Street entrance to Marcus Garvey Park. Named for Basketball Player and Coach Pelham Fritz 1920 – 1988. Fritz was a parks official and lived in Harlem most of his life. The Rec center has a weight lifting room, a computer room, a room for exercise classes, a childrens playroom as well as performance spaces and rooms for community meetings.
John Krawchuck gave a presentation about the redesign and restoration of the Harlem Fire Watchtower during a meeting hosted by the Marcus Garvey Park Alliance. Community residents gave their opinion by a show of hands on key issues such as access to the staircase and configuration of the base of the tower as it relates to the acropolis.
