Quilt exhibition 2014

Quilt exhibition 2014

An exhibition of quilts made by the Pelham Fritz Senior Quilters and Craft Club was installed in the back room of the Rec Center. This room serves as the green room all summer long for the Amphitheater. The quilters install an annual exhibition of their work which stays up for 1 week before being donated. The quilters would like to start  a new program in the rec center where they would teach a new generation of quilters how to quilt. If interested please let us know.

As Fall comes to an end the restoration of the Harlem Fire Watchtower is about to begin. Contractors will begin the painstaking process of carefully dismantling the tower piece by piece. Some pieces will be repaired and others will be used as templates to caste replacement pieces. The week of December 15th The Marcus Garvey Park Alliance (MGPAlliance) and the Mount Morris Park Community Improvement Association (MMPCIA) will co- host a community meeting to discuss the  restoration of the fire watchtower and of the acropolis. This will be a great opportunity for community residents to share their ideas for the restoration of the acropolis. The program will include a brief presentation about the Fire Watchtower and the Acropolis and then it will be opened up to the community for their input . The date time and place will be posted on our facebook pages ,websites, flyers will be emailed, snail mailed and posted around the community.

Follow this link to check them out.

The Marcus Garvey Park Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration will be held Tuesday December 9th at 7pm.

The living tree is located near the Fifth Avenue West 124th Street entrance to the park. The tree lighting will take place at 7pm and then move indoors  to the Pelham Fritz Recreation Center for Hot Chocolate and refreshments.
